A mosaic depicting Marco Simoncelli welcomes visitors to the new “Casa Marco Simoncelli” center, inaugurated on January 20th 20219, on the birthday of the motorcycle champion who passed away on Malaysia in 2011. Entirely handcrafted using approximately 500,00 stone and enamel tesserae, the 48-square-meter mosaic portrays Marco during his 2008 World Championship victory in the 250cc class at Sepang. This day-care center for people with disabilities was built just a few kilometers from Coriano (Rimini) with funds raised by the Marco Simoncelli Foundation and is managed by the Monte Tauro Community.
This perfect reproduction was made possible by the skill of our studio’s master craftsmen who, following the traditional techniques of mosaic art, faithfully recreated the image. By hand-cutting and manually placing each individual tessera, they captured every detail and the expression of Marco’s happy, determined and honest face.
